Community Asked to Speak Out for the Animals of Prince William County Animal Services Center

See Prince William Times Article

We are requesting that the 2024 Prince William County Government’s budget include three (3) veterinarian positions: Veterinarian, Vet Tech, and Vet Assistant required to operate the full scope of the veterinarian suite that is already available in the Animal Services Center today.

The county incorporated a wonderful vet suite in the new shelter, but it isn’t being utilized because of lack of staffing. The cost of the additional positions can be off-set by bringing services in-house and adjusting adoption fees. This will result in better fiscal management based on current County operation expenses.

Benefits to Prince William County and the shelter animals include:

  1. Better and more consistent care for the animals
  2. Reduction in the length of stay for animals at the shelter, saving the county money
  3. Utilization of a fully functional on-site vet suite that is not operational today
  4. Ability to bring new veterinary education programs to Prince William County Schools

Residents can get involved by attending the Board of County Supervisors meeting on Thursday, April 20 2023, at 7:30 pm at the McCoart Building, 1 County Complex Ct, Woodbridge, VA 22192. Speakers may address the Board for 3 minutes. If residents cannot attend in-person, they can speak virtually by signing up on this website: https://pwcgov.granicusideas.com/.

Citizens are also encouraged to reach out to their Supervisor and the Board by emailing them at [email protected]. They should speak out today to help the animals at the Prince William County Animal Services Center.
