With deep sadness, we share the news that our good friend and former board member, Carol Litchfield, passed away earlier this month. Carol was a strong shelter advocate who played a commanding role in the approval of the new Prince William County Animal Services Center. Upon hearing of its opening in 2022, Carol said, “Thanks for the wonderful news of what I remember as my life’s focus for several years!” In addition to shelter advocacy, she served as the lead on the PAW Express mobile adoption van, ensuring it was always ready to showcase animals in the community. Humane Education was paramount to Carol, who coordinated the building of our 22 Little Free Libraries at area schools. She oversaw book drives and promoted Kind News magazine in local schools to encourage reading and compassion.
Carol served on the Prince William SPCA Board for more than a decade. She worked tirelessly for the animals, and we were so fortunate to have had her on our team. Her work left a lasting impact on our community long after she left the area in August 2021.
We send our condolences to her family. Please join us in remembering Carol for the love, care, and devotion she so graciously gave on behalf of companion animals.
