The Prince William SPCA is not affiliated with or mandated by any local, regional or national animal welfare organization including the ASPCA or HSUS. We are an independent group that works on local issues that are determined by an elected board of directors. Our funding comes from the community, not any government agency or national organization. We are not a rescue organization nor do we have a shelter or foster program. Instead, we encourage cooperation among animal rescue groups, the local shelter, businesses, schools, civic organizations and the county government agencies. PWSPCA volunteers believe strongly that the key to our group’s success lies in the ability to develop relationships with these groups within the county and region.

The Prince William SPCA is very proud of the relationship it has with the two local animal shelters. Since 2004, we have supported the shelters and their pets by promoting pet adoptions, hosting special events, paying for supplies, advocating for shelter improvements, and working closely with their staff on various projects. This work is done through our Friends of the Shelter program, developed specifically to support the Prince William County Animal Shelter and the Manassas City Animal Adoption Center. In June 2011, the Petco Foundation awarded the Prince William SPCA with a grant to purchase a new mobile adoption van valued at more than $150,000. Additionally, Petco has donated more than $8,000 to the Prince William SPCA for spaying and neutering, adoption support and event sponsorships. We thank Petco for their continued support.
