PAW Express

The P.A.W. Express is the Prince William SPCA’s 26’ mobile adoption van, which was purchased with a $154,565 PETCO Foundation Extraordinary Gift grant. The grant was submitted as a joint partnership between the Prince William SPCA and the Prince William County Animal Shelter. The van has the capacity to hold approximately 26 animals. It is custom made with roll doors that allow the animals to be viewed from the outside.  Potential adopters can meet the pets in the van any time of year.

How to Request a Van Appearance

The Prince William SPCA accepts requests for its P.A.W. Express Mobile Adoption Van. The van will travel to the community with adoptable pets from the Prince William County Animal Shelter. Before you make your request, please keep the following items in mind:

  1. The van only travels to high foot-traffic locations with more than 300 people
  2. The van does not travel outside of Prince William County or Manassas
  3. The van will be in the community on Saturdays and Sundays
  4. All requests must be made at least 60 days in advance.
  5. Selection is done by the PWSPCA board and shelter staff
  6. Not all requests will be granted as we have limited dates available

Van History

The Prince William SPCA volunteers wrote the successful grant application that secured the funding for the van. The PETCO Foundation was looking for proposals that were creative, increased connections with their local community and local PETCOs, employed innovation, and most importantly enhanced the lives of animals in alignment with the goals of the PETCO Foundation. In an e-mail to the PWSPCA confirming the award, Paul Jolly, Executive Director of the PETCO Foundation, stated, “Congratulations. The competition for funding was intense, but your request impressed us all.”

The grant proposal included the request for a custom-built van that primarily will be used to increase adoptions of pets at the Prince William County Animal Shelter. The van will also assist in relief efforts of companion animals in crisis and serve as a transport vehicle to a spay/neuter facility.
